The Accidental Superpower: The Next Generation of American Preeminence and the Coming Global Disorder by Peter Zeihan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I thought this was an excellent book. The basic premise is that a nation’s fortunes are determined by it’s geography and population distribution. I agree these are the fundamental forces that effects nations but I think the author doesn’t account for other fundamental forces in human nature. I think stupidity, arrogance, greed and political naivety are also strong forces which will have another large impact on our future.
I agree with the direction the author is predicting and I’m afraid that it won’t be a neat transition; as it rarely is. On the near term he has predicted Russia’s actions and given us a hint that much of the Middle East won’t solve their problems in a nice way.
