My KGB File
For a long time, I was the lead Wind Tunnel Test Engineer for classified
programs for Northrop Grumman. Early in the design of all flight vehicles, a
ton of wind tunnel testing is needed to verify the design. Each of the major
tunnels in the country has unique characteristics.
It was common knowledge that the KGB would follow different wind tunnel,
test people through airports and monitor their destinations. Therefore, it was
simple to follow which tunnels were being used, and based on the
characteristics of the tunnel, they could learn a lot about the design.
We were often followed, and many times pictures were taken.
