Does Sci-Fi have too much action; or not enough?

I miss the old days of Science Fiction. They didn’t have the multimillion dollar budgets to make everything explode, mutate, evolve, implode, radiate or simply disappear. The stories were well written and after they ended, you thought for a moment. Something about the story, hit home. It tweaked something in your perspective of the world around you.

I love action in Science Fiction, but I also miss the stories that took the reader down a path then presented them with an unexpected piece of information. I enjoy most of the recent Sci-Fi spectaculars, but I don’t like it when the plot isn’t Science Fiction and the only part of the movie that is ‘out of this world’ is the special effects.

I suspect that I’m in the minority, judging by how much the ‘big’ movies gross. After all the only definition of quality that matters is the box office (Ya right!).

Where is all of this going?

I’m trying to write Sci-Fi stories that have unlikely heroes and different story lines. I even ‘dare’ to have female leads with good leadership skills. One thing you’ll never see in my stories is a typical male hero that kills thousands of those nasty aliens with a bigger weapon.

SIMPOC (Bk 1 & Bk 2) = Story about how the ‘evil’ computer started.
Gemini (Bk 1) = Naive aliens are put in a survival situation and they have to change to survive. They win with simple weapons and strategy, and find their religion needs change to recognize their new world.
Virus (Bk 1 & Bk 2) = Virus is a parallel story to SIMPOC and deals with a very suspicious virus which wipes out humanity. The follow-on stories deal with a unique reason for the virus.

Short Stories

Progeny = We’ve all read about robots taking over the world, but have you ever heard of robots discovering their history and finding out something very shocking.
The Greatest Host = A humorous story that I think you’ll find interesting.
Circle is closed = I’m setting up the reader with this one, let’s see if you can figure out where it is going.
